Things We Lost in the Fire
Susanne Bier fails to bring the same magic to her Hollywood debut that she did to her acclaimed Danish films (After the Wedding, Brothers & Open Hearts). The script is the major culprit here and the casting of big name actors, even though they try their best. What they try to capture is not an easy task and needed the utmost care and balance that Iñárritu and Arriaga achieved magnificently in "21 GRAMS" which also featured Benicio del Toro who tries his best here. Another flaw is the miscasting of David Duchovny in a crucial role. While the intentions are well meant, the films rings false on many occasions including the performances becoming acting showcases.
