The Silence
In the third film of his faith trilogy, Ingmar Bergman explores the lack of faith and spirituality or the absence of God. In this story two different sisters, the older is a sick intellectual whose indulges herself to alcohol, the younger a sex starved woman with a young son through whose eyes Bergman shows a hopeless world. The sisters travelling home to Sweden through a fictitious world where war is imminent with tanks all over the town. The film has a surreal feel to it and is one of Bergman's strangest film in both look and feeling. Again beautifully filmed by Sven Nykvist with great performances by Ingrid Thulin and the stunning Gunnel Lindblom in a starring role. YRCinema's coverage of films on DVD.
