Innocent Voices
Mexican writer and director Luis Mandoki delivered his best work with this powerful drama. 1980's El Salvador civil war is shown through the eyes of a eleven year old boy caught in the middle of the army and the guerrillas. Mandoki shows the innocent people, mostly women and kids suffering the consequences while watching their homes destroyed or kids taken away to be recruited by both sides. War is hell and it doesn't matter on which side you are. While the film provides an happy ending, it's clear that there aren't many in real life. The talented cast of professionals and non-pros give the film its power thanks to Mandoki and his team. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
