As I Lay Dying
Writer and director James Franco adapted the challenging novel by William Faulkner for the screen with striking results. A family takes a perilous journey for selfish and noble reasons to bury their matriarch in the town she requested. While the classic novel deserves to be adapted, it's challenging subject matter explains why it was left off for as long as it has, so Franco deserves credit for bring it to the screen in an interesting way which serves it thematically and visually. Franco stars as well along with a fine cast that includes Tim Blake Nelson, Logan Marshall-Green, Jim Parrack, Ahna O'Reilly and Danny McBride. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
