Director John Lee Hancock brings the story behind the scenes of the making of Mary Poppins. After a long courtship, British author P.L. Travers travels to Hollywood to meet Walt Disney who will do anything to get the rights to the beloved novel based on Travers' traumatic past. Hancock and writers Kelly Marcel and Sue Smith took the drama behind the scenes of the beloved classic to deliver an entertaining film about the challenges of filmmaking which comes through despite the glossy treatment. Emma Thompson stars with a terrific performance along a stellar supporting cast that includes Tom Hanks, Paul Giamatti, Colin Farrell and Ruth Wilson amongst others. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
