12

Nikita Mikhalkov (Burnt by the Sun) masterfully updates Sidney Lumet's classic "12 Angry Men" into another masterpiece that's timely and relevant. At first it seems like a film about 12 old Russian Men but Mikhalkov takes charge with great skill and brilliant pace about the nature crime and punishment that involves extreme prejudice, racism and intolerance. Over the course of the film the 12 jurors reveal themselves and change with every vote. Mikhalkov delivers a profound study that's full of integrity and compassion which is quiet an accomplishment given that the entire cast is made of old men and none of them of star status. The superb ensemble cast includes the writer and director in a supporting role. YRCinema's coverage of upcoming releases.
