L'Avventura
Michelangelo Antonioni's masterpiece is the opposite of Federico Fellini's "La Dolce Vita", both released in the same year. While Fellini's film has been more popular and successful, this film is more intellectual and less accessible. Antonioni has no intention of making it easy for the audience instead he plays mind games by taking the audience on an adventure of a different kind. The lives of the rich and beautiful was always a popular subject in the history of cinema from its beginning till to this day. That's exactly what Antonioni attacks in this film, while the rich are beautiful, they are also shallow and empty. Antonioni's haunting and mysterious images full of silence tease and push the audience that are conditioned to other expectations. The film has not lost one bit of its power and is still daring.
