One of the few Westerns with a central female character, shot on stunning locations with a superb cast. Jennifer Jones stars as Pearl Chavez, a half-breed woman who's sent to live with her wealthy but distant relatives where she's courted by the two very different sons, an educated lawyer and a cowboy. At the Ranch she struggles with her identity as she's partially accepted by the family. The issue of racism explored through the forbidden love story; while Pearl can be the mistress, she can't be married into the family that leads to the dramatic conclusion.
