The Light Thief
Kyrgyz writer and director Aktan Abdykalykov made his acting debut in this political drama. In the post Soviet small Kyrgyz village, a noble electrician gets caught in the corrupt politics which threatens the livelihood of the people. Abdykalykov's moving film shows a problem that's spreading like cancer in a remote part of the world where many countries face the same problem. It's not often you see a film from Kyrgyzstan which is a treat in many ways. YRCinema's coverage of the 54th San Francisco International Film Festival.
