Unknown Pleasures
Chinese writer and director Jia Zhangke's fourth feature explores the alienation of the youth. Two unemployed teenagers are disconnected from their environment and lured by the unknown pleasures of Western culture. Zhangke is the most prominent Chinese director whose films show the drastic changes and effects of the transformation of modern China through his dramas and documentaries. Through another expertly observed film, he shows the Western influences on the youth which will continue to widen the generational and cultural gap. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
