Incendies
Canadian writer and director Denis Villeneuve delivered his best work with this drama. In order to fulfill their mother's last wish, two siblings have to travel to the Middle East to uncover their mother's mysterious past in the search for a brother and father with shattering consequences. Based on the play by Wajdi Mouawad, Villeneuve turns the story into mysterious puzzle about war, survival, guilt, identity and generational conflict worth of a Greek tragedy that's timeless and universal. Despite its shortcomings and minor flaws, the film's staggering impact remains intact. Lubna Azabal stars with a powerful performance as a woman who witnesses and survives the horrors of war. 1001 Films's coverage of films on DVD.
