Hachiko: A Dog's Story
Swedish director Lasse Hallström made his most generic and uninspired film with this touching and sad story about an incredible dog. The remarkable story about the bond between a college professor and his dog who awaits his deceased owner for ten years at a train station. Based on a true Japanese story that gets lost in translation by the uninspired script and direction that aims at sentimentality with poor choices from beginning to finish. Richard Gere and Joan Allen star but the film belongs to the Akita dogs that make the film worthwhile. It's a dog lovers film that shows that dogs are man's best friend indeed. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
