Footnote
Israeli writer and director Joseph Cedar took on academic rivalry with this dark comedy. A father and son, both scholars on opposite sides find themselves rivals for a coveted prize with unexpected consequences. While the story might not seem very appealing in its topic, Cedar managed to create an immensely entertaining film that takes no prisoners in its humor while keeping its humanity in tact. Shlomo Bar-Aba and Lior Ashkenazi deliver outstanding performances as the father and son whose relationship is threatened by their profession. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
