French writer and director Bruno Dumont delivered another powerful character study about the tragic fate of artist Camille Claudel. 1915, after years of being abandoned and confined to a mental asylum by her family, Camille tries to keep her sanity despite the grim reality but hoping that a visit from her brother will end her suffering. Dumont whose films have a religious angle, shows the tragedy of a female artist wrongfully punished by her religious family represented through her fanatic brother who seems more crazy than her. It's an heartbreaking film about a great artist robbed of most of her life by her own family. Juliette Binoche stars with another terrific performance that shows how Claudel was misunderstood and punished for being a woman and an artist. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
