Black Narcissus

The writing and directing team of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger delivered another masterpiece with this dazzling film. A group of nuns in a remote palace in the Himalayas fight for their sanity when they are psychologically and spiritually tested by exotic location and people. Based on the novel by Rumer Godden, Powell and Pressburger delivered a timely character study about the British in India which they failed to rule. Deborah Kerr and Kathleen Byron gave unforgettable performances as the two different nuns along with a superb supporting cast that includes David Farrar, Sabu and Jean Simmons. Dazzling cinematography by Jack Cardiff is a milestone in the history of cinema. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
