Elizabethtown

Writer and director Cameron Crowe failed at a genre he mastered so well with this romantic comedy. After a colossal failure, a young designer wants to commit suicide when he finds out about his father's death which sends him on a journey of self-discovery. Crowe who should have been in his comfort zone with the material, somehow lost his magic touch. The film gains some momentum towards the end but it's too late. The problem lies with the script and direction which fails to find the right tone and pacing as it tries too hard to be funny and cute which the talented cast can't save. Orlando Bloom is rather bland as the lead which doesn't help the film either. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
