Boyhood

Writer and director Richard Linklater returns with another terrific film which is one of a kind. The life of a boy and his family is shown in real time over the course of twelve years from a child to a young adult. The fact that Linklater spent 12 years to make the film where actors age on screen makes the film a special treat without any artifice of make-up. The natural course of story takes away the artificial input of conflicts that gives the story an authentic feel. Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke star with solid performances which reminds it's a fictional film while Ellar Coltrane's transformation from boy to man comes as natural as possible where the line between life and performance is blurred. The supporting cast is solid as well with Lorelei Linklater appearing as the sister with an equal transformation. 1001 Films' coverage of current releases.
