French cinematographer Philippe Rousselot made his directing debut with this ambitious British period drama which remains his only directing effort. A Dutch architect arrives to a remote British estate to design a lavish garden but finds himself entangled with the wealthy family where nothing is as it seems. Rousselot may have chosen a too ambitious project for his debut in a foreign language but doesn't fail even if the film is uneven. Ewan McGregor stars along with Greta Scacchi, Pete Postlethwaite, Richard E. Grant and Carmen Chaplin. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
