The Act of Killing
Directors Joshua Oppenheimer and Christine Cynn delivered an astonishing film with this groundbreaking documentary which has to been seen to be believed. Indonesian war criminal Anwar Congo not only admits to his unimaginable crimes along with his collaborators of killing thousands of innocent people that were considered communists but brags about it and is willing to reenact scenes of torture, rape and murder in the style of Hollywood films from lavish musicals, western and gangster films amongst others which turns the film into a surreal nightmare. Oppenheimer and his crew, most of which remain anonymous have a created an unforgettable film that's shocking as it is riveting giving insight to the banality of evil. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
