Down to the Bone

Writer and director Debra Granik made her feature debut with this unflinching look at drug addiction in this searing drama. Vera Farmiga stars as a woman who can't shake off her addiction despite her many efforts. There's nothing glamorous about this film and it's as bleak as the subject matter. Granik might have done the only realistic film about drug addiction without going the extremes as most film about the subject do. The story, characters and situation feel real without a false note.
