The Passion of Anna

Swedish master Ingmar Bergman explored the human capacity for physical and psychological cruelty to each other and animals in this profound drama. Four tormented souls fight their demons while trying to connect with each other while a violent animal killer looms around them. Bergman's approach is clinical as introduces and dissects each character while getting the input of the actors on their characters. It's a fascinating study rarely addressed in cinema. Bergman got four of his frequent actors in the leads that includes Liv Ullmann, Max von Sydow, Bibi Andersson and Erland Josephson as well as regular crew with Sven Nykvist, Siv Lundgren, P.A. Lundgren and Lars-Owe Carlberg that made this classic. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
