Birth

British director Jonathan Glazer followed his explosive debut with this subtle supernatural drama dealing with mysterious life after death phenomena. Ten years after a devastating loss, a grieving widow is confronted by a young boy who claims to be her dead husband which derails her plans to move forward with her life. Glazer and co-writers Jean-Claude Carrière and Milo Addica treat their subject matter with the utmost intelligence staying away from cheap thrills and easy answers you would normally expect from the material. Nicole Kidman delivers another shattering performance as the tormented widow along with a stellar supporting cast that includes Danny Huston, Lauren Bacall and newcomer Cameron Bright. The stunning cinematography by Harris Savides, score by Alexandre Desplat and production design by Kevin Thompson is top notch. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
