W.E.

Pop icon Madonna's second feature as a writer and director is more ambitious than her debut as she tells the story of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor who were icons themselves and equally fashionable as the material girl herself who seems to have an obsession for the couple which works in her favor. The story of the Windsors is told through a young woman obsessed with their love story as her own life falls apart and must find herself to live and love again. Madonna definitely has an eye for style and fashion but while the film looks impeccable and features solid performances, the biggest problem lies with the two story device that hurts the film. The film gives a more sympathetic and romantic look of the Windsors which is the opposite of the far superior "The King's Speech" which showed the couple in a more negative light. Abbie Cornish and Andrea Riseborough star along with James D'Arcy, Oscar Isaac and Richard Coyle in the supporting roles. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
