Directors Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky delivered an astonishing film with this documentary that literally saved the lives of the teenagers accused of a vicious crime. After the horrific killing of three boys in 1993, the West Memphis police in Arkansas rushed to accuse three teenagers of the crime without any evidence because one of them wore black clothes and listened to Heavy Metal music. Berlinger and Sinofsky's access to the accused, the victims' families and authorities make for a riveting film that unfolds like a thriller. There's a lot of material but the filmmakers focus on the hysteria and paranoia that lead to the witch hunt of the accused who were convicted of the crimes they didn't commit.
