Bernie

Writer and director Richard Linklater reunited with Jack Black for another winning comedy. When a likable funeral director and social butterfly befriends and kills a wealthy widow, the townspeople refuse to believe his guilt despite the evidence. Based on a true story, Linklater created an original comedy that gives Black his best performance beyond the silly comedies. The only problem is the heavy use of witnesses which drags the pacing. Matthew McConaughey disappears in a supporting role which marks a turning point in his career. The supporting cast also includes Shirley MacLaine with another solid performance. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
