Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives

Thai writer and director Apichatpong Weerasethakul delivers another unique and original film. The story of a dying man who retreats to a remote cabin in the jungle to spent his last days with his family. There he interacts with ghosts of beloved and other supernatural beings while recalling the journey of his spirit. What's astonishing about the film is how Weerasethakul takes a supernatural story and makes into a human one without any gimmicks you would expect. The subject matter has been dealt before in cinema but more within a genre frame that Weerasethakul totally avoids. The treatment of humans, ghosts and other beings is treated as matter of fact in the same way like they always co-existed but never given it a serious approach like this that's profound and refreshing at the same time.
