Knight and Day

Versatile director James Mangold jumped to this action thriller for change after his solid efforts in drama (Walk the Line) and western (3:10 to Yuma). A woman is caught up in a dangerous international adventure with a secret agent. Mangold reunites Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz for a film that arrives ten years too late. Nothing in the film including the story, action and star power has the current immediacy of the genre as it tries too hard to please. This film has the feel of a 90's film when Cruise and Diaz were at the height of their careers, they both recycle familiar performances which adds to its annoyance. The solid supporting cast includes Peter Sarsgaard, Jordi Mollà, Viola Davis and Paul Dano as well as exotic destinations. YRCinema's coverage of films on DVD.
