Callas Forever

Italian writer and director Franco Zeffirelli made a fictionalized film that serves as a homage to his friend, the legendary Maria Callas. A director approaches opera legend Maria Callas at the end of her career to reenact her most famous performances to be synced with her audio recordings which gives the diva a new chance to return on stage but also a moral dilemma. The film succeeds because of Zeffirelli's real connection with Callas who might have been approached with a similar proposal. The highlight of the film is the music of Callas. French actress Fanny Ardant stars as Callas with a solid performance given the impossibility of the endeavor with the support of Jeremy Irons and Joan Plowright. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
