Heading South
Before winning the Palme d'Or, French writer and director Laurent Cantet visited Haiti for this compelling drama. A young and poor Haitian man becomes the object of affection for two wealthy middle aged American Women who have found bliss in the South. Based on short stories by Dany Laferrière, Cantet and co-writer Robin Campillo created a portrait of Haiti in the 80's where poverty and tourism form a dangerous mix. Terrific performances by the divine Charlotte Rampling and Karen Young make this drama timeless and universal. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
