Caravaggio

British "avant-garde" writer and director Derek Jarman made an unconventional film about the Baroque painter of the title. At his deathbed, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio reflects on his troubled life from the streets to acclaim as an influential painter. Jarman's film is closer to the rebel spirit of Caravaggio than historical accuracy which he accomplished through visual flair and energy with an stellar cast and crew. The film marks the feature debut of actors Sean Bean and Tilda Swinton who became the muse for the director. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
