Two runaway children embark on perilous journey from Greece to Germany in the search of their father where they encounter the good and evil of the world. Angelopoulos uses the innocence of the children to point out the existential odyssey toward the unattainable. After several attempts to board a train without a ticket, the children realize the importance of money. When they finally get the money for a ticket, they realize they need a passport as well which makes their journey even more heartbreaking.
