A History of Violence
Canadian writer and director David Cronenberg revived his career with this riveting thriller. After a random act of violence, a small town man becomes a national hero which makes him the target of the mob who are looking for a notorious killer. Brilliantly written by Josh Olson and directed by Cronenberg the film breathes new life into a genre full of cliches while exploring different kinds of violence from daily school bullying to organized crime. Cronenberg and his stellar cast and crew kick ass and then some with this lean and mean thriller. Viggo Mortensen, Maria Bello, Ed Harris and William Hurt deliver top notch performances. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
