Equus
Legendary director Sidney Lumet brought the acclaimed play to the screen in this psychological drama. When a psychiatrist takes the case of a teenager who brutally blinded several horses, he faces a psychological meltdown of his own. Peter Shaffer adapted his own play for the screen but Lumet failed to open it up by keeping intact most of the dialogue and monologues which make film more theatrical and claustrophobic. Richard Burton and Peter Firth deliver powerful performances as the tormented men. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
