Metropolitan
Writer and director Whit Stillman made his feature debut with this well written and observed comedy. A group of wealthy New Yorker preppies accept an outsider into their group where he stirs the dynamic of the group as they examine their lives. Stillman clearly had a great knowledge about the environment and its characters which enriches the script and the film which works despite its wall to wall dialogue. The film also serves as a time capsule for a time and place before the mobile phones and the Internet changed the world. While the film is set in 1990, it could have been 1980 or 1970 for that matter. Among the solid ensemble, Chris Eigeman stands out as the charismatic leader of the group. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
