Niloofar

Editor Sabine El Gemayel made her writing and directing debut with this powerful story about a teenage girl who's sold by her father for a piece of land. Though the story is set at a village at the border of Iraq and Iran, the story is a common one in the Muslim world where young girls are traded like cattle. Niloofar is a lively young girl who helps her mid-wife mother but wants to go to school and become a doctor. After a local landlord sets his eyes on the young girl, he offers her father a deal he can't refuse. Everybody consents to the deal but Niloofar and her uncle who's worried for her sake and embark on a dangerous journey that could endanger their lives.
