Inkheart

British director Iain Softley continues his career's downward spiral with this dull fantasy film. The story about a young girl who discovers that her father's gift to bring characters of fiction alive has devastating consequences for both worlds. While the intentions are well, the core story lacks originality and ingenuity which brings down the film like a house of cards with a bitter aftertaste. Again talent can take a poor script only so far. The cast includes Brendan Fraser, Paul Bettany and Helen Mirren who waste their talents. YRCinema's coverage of films on DVD.
