FUR: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus
Director Steven Shainberg followed his breakthrough film "Secretary" with this strange but stunning film about the celebrated photographer Diane Arbus. In this imaginary portrait, the evolution of Diane Arbus is explored from a housewife to a photographer who concentrated on portraits of people on the margins of society. Skipping the traditional approach of a biographical film, Shainberg and writer Erin Cressida Wilson took inspiration from the book of Patricia Bosworth to make an audacious film about Diane Arbus that's in spirit close to her work as an artist which is a stunning in it own right. Nicole Kidman stars with another brave performance along with Robert Downey Jr. and Ty Burrell as the men of her life. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
