Writer Dustin Lance Black (Milk, J. Edgar) made his feature debut with this uneven drama. A mentally unstable woman's life spins out of control when her teenage son falls for the daughter of the the Sheriff with political ambitions. While the characters are compelling, the film lacks focus and coherency which seemed too much for the novice director to handle. Jennifer Connelly stars along with Ed Harris with solid performances.
