The Rape of Europa
Directors Richard Berge, Bonni Cohen and Nicole Newnham made this fascinating documentary about art and war. The story about the Nazis systematic approach to loot and plunder art works from the countries they invaded from France and Austria to Poland and Russia. Millions of art works disappeared, while some found, others still remain lost or in private collections. Some of the art works were found at museums and galleries who had no had idea that they were stolen or refused to return them to their rightful owners. The film brings an interesting point about war to light. The Nazis were not the only ones who looted cultural artifacts. The British museum is full of artwork from around the world that were taken during the rule of the empire. During the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, a lot of art work disappeared from museums and sold to collectors around the world. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
