King of Devil's Island
Norwegian director Marius Holst delivered a brooding period drama set in the remote island of Bastøy at the turn of the last century. A new inmate at the home for juvenile delinquents becomes the leader who stands up to the tyrannical adults. While the story is not new or original, Holst and his cast and crew delivered a powerful and cohesive film that relies on characters and atmosphere to tell its story. Swedish acting legend Stellan Skarsgård stars with another terrific performance but newcomers Benjamin Helstad and Trond Nilssen hold their own against the seasoned performers. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
