Ponette

French writer and director Jacques Doillon delivered a poignant film with this heartbreaking drama. After a tragic accident that kills her mother, a four year old girl is left by her grieving father to cope with the loss while dealing with her cousins and other children. Doillon explores childhood intelligence dealing mature themes of loss and death. Victoire Thivisol made her debut with an astonishing performance that requires her to be in every scene in a feature film which quite an accomplishment by itself. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
