The Impossible

Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona brings the incredible true story of a family that survived the deadliest disaster in human history, the 2004 Tsunami that killed 300,000 people. A couple with their three young sons vacationing in Thailand fight for survival as the tsunami hits. Based on a true story of Spanish family, Bayona gives a glimpse into the sheer horror of the catastrophe that's almost impossible to watch. Blending horror and drama with a stellar cast, Bayona delivers a terrific drama about the human spirit during one of the worst disasters. Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor star with heartbreaking performances but the film belongs to newcomer Tom Holland who's the heart and soul of it in his debut. The outstanding visual effects and production design add to the visceral experience. 1001 Films' coverage of current releases.
