Being Flynn

Writer and director Paul Weitz returned to top form with this father and son drama after several missteps. A young man meets his estranged father in a homeless shelter who abandoned him and his mother causing them life long suffering. Based on the novel by Nick Flynn, Weitz assembled a stellar cast for this heart wrenching drama about a dysfunctional family that's torn apart. Robert De Niro and Paul Dano star as the father and son who never connected but share the same passion for writing, while the elder suffering from delusions of grandeur as a self-proclaimed poet, the younger is the real deal. De Niro delivers one of his best performances in years along the terrific supporting cast that includes Julianne Moore, Olivia Thirlby, Lili Taylor and Wes Studi. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
