Butter

British director Jim Field Smith's second feature is satire that has its moments but misfires mostly. Set in the world of butter carving, the wife of the leading champion doesn't take lightly when her husband wants to retire which forces her to enter the competition. There's a lot of tongue and cheek going on that allows the game cast to let loose but the problem is the main character who's not very sympathetic and becomes annoying too soon. Jennifer Garner stars with an over the top performance that derails the film. The film's main charm is the supporting characters, specially Yara Shahidi, Alicia Silverstone and Rob Corddry which the film needed more of. The supporting cast also includes Hugh Jackman, Olivia Wilde and Ty Burrell. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
