Red Dust

British director Tom Hooper made this effective drama about the process of South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission which was established after the end of Apartheid. After a brutal police officer seeks for amnesty from Commission, it opens wounds of their recent past for the whole town including a political activist and his lawyer who try to expose the officer and his allies. Hooper and his talented cast and crew manage to bring clarity into a process which is not only unique to South Africa but also fascinating. Hilary Swank and Chiwetel Ejiofor deliver powerful and searing performances which shows the emotional toll that has haunted a country. YRCinema's coverage of films on DVD.
