French writer and director Stéphane Rybojad made his feature debut with this action thriller featuring an all star cast. After a French journalist is kidnapped by the Taliban in Afghanistan, the French government sends a group of special forces to retrieve which proves more difficult than anticipated. Rybojad made a capable first picture given the logistics of it but also greatly helped by the terrific cast which elevates to higher level despite the genre limitations. Diane Kruger, Djimon Hounsou and Benoît Magimel star with solid performances despite the limitations of their characters which are basically underwritten and simplistic. The supporting cast includes Raphaël Personnaz, Denis Ménochet and Tchéky Karyo amongst others. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
