Mystery

Chinese director Lou Ye's first film in China after he was banned for five year in another missed opportunity. A woman's discovery of her husband's infidelity leads her to expose the scope of his betrayal. Ye's domestic thriller shows how the rapid changes in Chinese society has destroyed the fabric of society where marriage is not sacred anymore but another opportunity for the rich to do as they please. The film's criticism of Chinese society is more subtle than Ye's previous work. The problem lies with script which is far fetched to be credible despite the best effort of the talented cast. 1001 Films' coverage of the 65th Festival de Cannes.
