On the Road

Brazilian director Walter Salles went on the road again for this long-gestating adaptation of Jack Kerouac's classic novel. An aspiring writer finds inspiration by following a charismatic vagabond on the road where they encounter various characters that shapes him. Salles and writer Jose Rivera are faithful to the novel and its spirit by giving insight to the birth of American counterculture that changed the world. While it please the older generation and lovers of the book, it won't resonate with the younger audiences due to its massive generational gap despite its hot young cast. Sam Riley and Garrett Hedlund star along with a stellar supporting cast that includes Kristin Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, Tom Sturridge and Viggo Mortenson amongst others. 1001 Films' coverage of the 65th Festival de Cannes.
