If a Tree Falls

Directors Marshall Curry and Sam Cullman delivered a riveting and thought provoking film with this terrific documentary. Through the story of Daniel McGowan a member of the ELF (Earth Liberation Front) waiting for his trial, Curry and Cullman tell the story behind the movement and how McGowen and other members joined and became heroes and terrorists at the same time. The multi-layered film asks profound questions about society and its responsibilities towards its citizens and the environment, the political power struggle and what makes a person a hero and a terrorist. It's a even handed film that shows all the perspectives without providing easy answers. The question that remains is how the save the planet that faces a systematic destruction around the world. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
