Knowing

Greek-Australian director Alex Proyas made an effective sci-fiction thriller by tapping into several questions that has perplexed human kind. A scientist and single father finds a meaning in a numbers filled paper his son receives from a five decade old time-capsule. Proyas and his writing team throw philosophical, scientific, religious questions amongst others about the human existence on earth and its relationship to the rest of the universe. While the questions are valid, the film is best enjoyed as an entertaining thriller which otherwise would be derailed long before the end. The weakest link is the performance of Nicholas Cage while the action and special effects are far superior than many of the films in its genre. 1001 Films' coverage of films on DVD.
